Founder

Emily Lertpatthanakul

Emily started e-scapes to bring together the things she cares about most: making by hand, the two cultures she grew up between, and the work of turning a drawing into something real.

Four laser-cut panels โ€” dragon, rabbit, rat, and snake โ€” laid out on a wooden table

    Made by hand

Emily has always made things. Glue, paper, wood, a razor, an afternoon. A kit should leave the best part, the making, to you.

    Two worlds

Her family's roots are in Southeast Asia. She was born and raised in the United States. She feels at home in both, and each lantern is a place where they meet.

    Drawing to production

Design, CAD, and production are the parts she loves most. Every panel starts as a drawing, becomes a cut file, and is tested until the joints fit without screws.

Why lanterns

Asian craft, American places, one frame.

The panels mix zodiac animals and Himeji Castle with a schooner and a lighthouse. Pick the four that feel like yours.
